One major legal issue related to nanotechnology is the impact nanoparticles can have on society. Because its size is from 1 to 100 nanometers, the FDA fears its consumption can easily cause health problems. Nanotechnology researchers "who use nanotechnology in research or production processes may be exposed to nanomaterials through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion." (10.5) As a result, the FDA had passed a law regulating its use and its "approach is consistent with relevant overarching U.S. government policy principles, and supports innovation under appropriate oversight." ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND SOCIAL ISSUES
ETHICAL ISSUES
Because nanotechnology has recently been developed, many of its groundbreaking capabilities have created new ethical questions.
One main ethical issue that is asked by many is how the potential of nanorobots many cause the world to change drastically. Because nanotechnology aids in the elimination of diseases by creating nanorobots, which is often kept in laboratories, some fear that if accidently let out into society it can turn into "gray goo." Gray goo is "a theoretical existential risk scenario involving molecular nanotechnology in which out-of-control self-replicating robots consume all matter on Earth while building more of themselves a scenario known as ecophagy (eating the environment)". (10.1)
Additionally, because nanorobots have not thoroughly been reviewed in many trials, many question its safety hazards. Due to the fact that nanorobots include a prescence of little knowledge, some feel that in an area where lack of knowledge plays a large role, the nanorobot use may cause damage to the brain and other major problems.
Another common issue related to nanorobots is how they risk causing a change to human identity. Because nanorobots can instantly enter a human body and fix a genetic disease or a regular pathogen that is not wanted in the bloodstream, many feel that it is changing the destiny of that peron's life because it is eliminating what was purposely supposed to take place. People often state that if nanorobots can fully eliminate diseases, it will cause the human race to be equivalent in health, and this will lead to less diversity.

A social issue that creates uneasiness between many is the fact that nanoparticles which can be produced with nanotechnology, when inhaled can lead to health hazards. Parents fear that if their children are exposed to nanoparticles and accidently consume it, due to its small size, it may lead to health issues. Aditionally, when nanoparticles are exposed to the environment or to organisms, they can be hard to remove. Even more, if entered into the body it can take a long period of time to eliminate completely from the body.
